MARIANNE SVENDSEN, MA
LICENSED MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPIST

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist with 20 years of experience working with children, teens and families. I focus on helping teens, young adults and parents who are struggling with stress, anxiety and depression. I will help and support you through empathy, collaboration and goal setting.

I was born in the Philippines and came to California at the age of three. Adapting to the U.S. culture was not easy and definitely came with challenges, culturally and mentally. I understand what it is like to go through the California school system and the challenges of coming from another country.

After high school I joined the U.S. Air Force and I completed my bachelor’s degree in Social Psychology and master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. I have been married for 22 year and I have a daughter in college and a son in middle school. I have worked with county mental health agencies throughout my career to attain the status of Clinical Supervisor. I have also served as a Compliance Officer and as the Regional Quality Improvement Analyst for two large non-profit agencies. I currently work for a hospital group as a Licensed Clinician for their Employee Assistance Program, providing support to healthcare workers and their families.

With the recent pandemic and social unrest, being a teenager, a young adult or parenting children can be difficult. It can sometimes leave you feeling hopeless or alone. Because of my life experiences, I have a better understanding of those who have similar experiences as me.

We all have our own unique story and we all go through different experiences in our life. Those experiences often affect our mental health. They also shape how we cope with our stressors, struggles or happiness. My passion is to collaborate with you, so that you can enjoy and embrace those experiences while finding joy in your life.

I describe myself to be kind, with a soft heart for children and I often find myself eager to help those in need. Humor, laughter and being grateful, are my quick fixes when I feel down or discouraged. I can often find humor in any given situation and love to laugh. People often tell me that I have an infectious laugh. I find joy in volunteering to care for infants at our local church and spending time with family and friends.

I value family, kindness and growth. With support, there are endless possibilities for you. Let me help you find the joy that’s missing in your life.
